Porcelain Veneers
What are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are made of thin shells of porcelain that are adhered to the front of your teeth. They are long-lasting and durable, with most veneers lasting for about 10 years or longer before replacement is necessary. They can help to cover a range of flaws and problems at the front of your smile. The procedure to place them is relatively noninvasive, quick and easy.
Why are porcelain veneers needed?
It’s not uncommon to be unhappy with your smile. You might avoid smiling, talking or laughing because of the way that you look. Some of the issues that veneers can cover include:
- Cracks and chips
- Stains and discoloration
- Uneven spacing
- Short, uneven teeth
- Dullness and yellowing
Who is a candidate for porcelain veneers?
Your front teeth need to be otherwise healthy in order for the veneers to work properly. If the front teeth are decayed or have other problems, we may suggest additional treatment before actually having the veneers made and placed. The majority of adult patients who want veneers can safely have them placed over their teeth for a dramatic difference to their smile.
What happens during the procedure for porcelain veneers?
The procedure begins by buffing and slightly filing down the front teeth. Impressions will then be made in order to create the new porcelain veneers. You will be scheduled to come in for a second visit once the veneers are made for you. The permanent veneers are placed over the teeth and you’ll find that your smile changes drastically because of these new restorations. You can treat your veneers similarly to how you’d treat other restorations in your mouth. You can expect the porcelain veneers to last for about 10 years before you may want to consider full replacement. The procedure to make and place veneers is easy and the results are incredibly drastic and beneficial to your self-esteem.
