Sealants

There's a new dental practice in Denver, CO

What are Sealants?

A sealant is a clear coating that can be used to protect the back teeth. Many back teeth have deep grooves and fissures that make cleaning them difficult or even impossible. This is why back teeth are often more susceptible to decay than the front of your smile. To keep these back teeth protected, clear sealants can be applied to the chewing surfaces so that tooth decay and deep staining is a thing of the past.

Why are Sealants needed?

If you’re susceptible to decay or already have quite a few fillings, you might benefit from dental sealants. Likewise, sealants are especially beneficial for children who may not have the best brushing, flossing and eating habits. Sealants can last for anywhere from one to three years. They can be reapplied as often as needed and are critical when it comes to preventing the need for more extensive dental work.

Who Is A Candidate For Sealants

Who is a candidate for Sealants?

Both children and adults alike can and will benefit from sealants. If you’ve been looking for a way to protect your teeth or you have deep grooves on the back teeth, we may recommend sealants as a way to keep your smile looking its best. The procedure to place sealants is easy and quick, and there is absolutely no anesthetic that is needed. You will benefit from how well they work with your smile to keep it protected throughout the year.

What happens during the Sealant procedure?

First, Dr. Seto will clean and dry the back teeth. The liquid sealant is then brushed onto the teeth. The liquid is then dried with a curing light that hardens it into place. This will prevent the sealant from moving or washing away. Sealants are not an excuse to forgo brushing and flossing, since they only protect the back teeth. We can check on these sealants at each of your dental checkup visits. Sealants can be reapplied as often as needed to keep your teeth healthy and bright.
