Inlays and Onlays
There's a new dental practice in Denver, CO
What are Inlays and Onlays?
Inlays and onlays are restorations that are used to improve the look of your teeth. Inlays will sit more in the cusps or grooves of the teeth while an onlay sits over the very top of a tooth. They are often necessary when a full dental crown isn’t needed, but a filling isn’t sufficient enough. They can last for decades without the need for special treatment or care.
Why are Inlays and Onlays needed?
The reason you may need or want an inlay or onlay is because you have a large filling that should be replaced or a deep area of decay. Likewise, an onlay may be necessary if you’re cracked or chipped a tooth just enough to warrant this restoration but not enough to need a full dental crown. Some patients even request inlays and onlays because they’re more durable and long-lasting than some other restorations.
Who is a candidate for Inlays and Onlays?
Dr. Seto will perform an examination to determine if you might need or will benefit from either an inlay or onlay. If you have an older restoration, it will need to be removed before a new inlay or onlay can be placed. You will find that the inlay or onlay that you have is made specifically for you. It will provide you with a full and beautiful smile for years to come.
What happens during the procedure for Inlays and Onlays?
The procedure starts with an anesthetic to numb the area. Dr. Seto then removes any decay from the tooth as well as old filling material. Impressions are taken and used to make the new restoration. A second appointment is scheduled so that you can come back in and have the inlay or onlay placed. We smooth out the new restoration so that it fits perfectly and you’ll be ready to go about your day with your brand new, healthy-looking smile.
If you think you might need either an inlay or onlay, call us today and we can help to get you scheduled with an appointment in our low wait-time office.
