What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is often necessary when a tooth is broken, damaged or compromised. Crowns are made out of realistic materials that ensure they blend in well with the rest of your smile. They are custom made to fit perfectly and can last for many years to come. The crown itself even helps to protect the underlying tooth from further damage.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

Oftentimes, a crown is needed if a tooth has broken, cracked or fractured. If a tooth has a large area of decay or many fillings, we may suggest a crown because of how vulnerable the tooth currently is. Likewise, if you’ve had a root canal recently, a crown will help to protect it from further damage and infection. Crowns can be placed on any tooth within the mouth that needs it.

Who’s A Candidate For A Dental Crown

Who’s a candidate for a Dental Crown?

Dr. Seto will perform an exam to determine if you may need a crown. We recommends having a crown placed sooner rather than later to prevent further damage to the compromised tooth. You may even need an older crown replaced as it shows signs of wear. Your new dental crown is made just for you and mimics the rest of your smile perfectly.

What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?

The crown procedure begins with a local anesthetic that’s used to numb the area. Dr. Seto then files down the damaged tooth to make room for the new crown. Impressions, which are often referred to as molds, are taken. These molds are used to make both a temporary crown that you’ll have to leave the office with and the permanent dental crown. You’ll then come in for a second appointment so that the permanent crown can be placed. The procedure is very quick and provides you with a full, beautiful and healthy-looking smile. We’re happy to provide you with this treatment in our relaxed, personable and family-friendly office.

If you think you may need a dental crown and are looking for a dental office with low wait times, we welcome you to call us so that we can get you in as soon as possible.
